We Serve our own Church Community:
  • We host an awesome Mother’s Day Out program on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the regular school year. Please check out their own page here.
  • Our Cumberland Presbyterian Youth Group, led by Kelli Steed-Ashburn, meets Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. during the school year, and 6:00 p.m. during the summers. Kelli mixes up a wonderful blend of worship, service, fun, a mission trip, and more. If you wish to contact Kelli, please drop her a note at youthgroupsocpc@gmail.com
  • Our church offers a “Dinner for Six” opportunity. Once a month, groups of six meet in various settings, a cafe, or restaurant, or a church member’s home to share food and fellowship. One of our church members makes up the groupings on a quarterly basis. If you’re interested, we’ll introduce you to Bruce Troxel, our coordinator, and he’ll get you started.
  • Our annual Vacation Bible School is free to all children, church members and non-church members.
  • We provide and serve dinner to the displaced families at the SAMM Ministry on Blanco Road every other month. The next date is Tuesday, May 15th.
  • The Monthly “Senior Lunch Bunch” gathers on the 4th Tuesday of each month at various, local restaurants. The restaurant for the next month is decided during lunch by all participating. ALL ARE WELCOME!
  • We have a quilting ministry, Jana’s Quilters, which meet on the 2nd Sat. of each month at 10:00 a.m. to make quilts for child cancer patients, primarily at Christus Santa Rosa hospital in downtown San Antonio. Their desire to offer comfort, mercy and healing has also led them to branch out to the elderly and to others who are in need.
  • We host an Annual Pumpkin Patch, in conjunction with our Mother’s Day Out Fall Festival, complete Rummage and Bake Sales, late in October of each year.
  • We host an annual “Breakfast with Santa” in December of each year, in which we also participate in the Marines’ “Toys for Tots” program.
  • Our Christmas Outreach Ministry is carefully selected, each year, to reflect helping with the greatest needs, including an “Angel Tree” to benefit the Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home which serves far more than just children in need; it serves families in need.
We enjoy taking care of our property and facilities, and offer these volunteer opportunities:
  • We do our own Groundskeeping, and we are proud of our lovely lawn. Teams of two serve all year ’round to mow, edge, trim, and so forth. We always welcome more volunteers to help with this important need.
  • Our “KP Duty” consists of helping tidy up the kitchen after Sunday coffee. Church members sign up to take rotating duty, and, as always, the more, the merrier!
  • We host 2 – 4 “all church” work Saturdays each year, in which we invite all attendees to help out with special maintenance, repair or decorating needs, as well as the regularly necessary “pick up, put away, or throw away” parties any organization needs from time to time.
  • We have an Altar Guild, and even an unofficial Chancel Guild that help keep our Sanctuary looking as lovely as it should, being God’s home. ANYONE is welcome to help keep things tidy; many hands make light work.
Stone Oak Cumberland Community Church answers a call to be the Stone Oak community church. Here are some of the ways in which we open our doors, our hearts and our facilities to the community:
  • Brother Kevin and one of our Elders offer a worship service the last Sunday of each month at The Laurels, at the corner of Knight’s Crossing and Cresent Oaks. We offer additional ministry services at that location as needed.
  • Some of our church members volunteer to pick up some elderly church members at both Independence Hill on Huebner Road and The Laurels that they might attend both Sunday school and worship, then deliver them back to their homes.
  • We have hosted Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Brownie and Girl Scout troops, as well as a lively Pinewood Derby or two.
  • We do, with restrictions, offer the use of our Fellowship Hall for personal private events. We do charge modestly to cover our expenses, and we cannot, by tax code, allow use by “for profit” organizations. Please contact the Church Office if you have a private event in mind you might like to use our facilities for.

Your Wedding at Stone Oak Cumberland Presbyterian Church:

We are happy to offer wedding services to non-members of this church, with just a few stipulations. We note that brides can choose to bring in a minister of their own, but it is a courtesy to speak with our Pastor, the Rev. Kevin Colvard, first. He does require that all prospective couple participate in
pre-marital counseling. The full details are contained in this letter of information:

Wedding Letter, Terms and Contract

We encourage all prospective brides to come view our Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall. It’s key that you can see what we offer, see if is the right size for you, and whether it “feels right” for you.

Lisa Troxel, a member of our church, serves as our Wedding Coordinator. We encourage calling our Church Office in advance of a visit, so that she can be here to meet with you, and answer any initial questions. The Church Office is normally open from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the telephone number is 210-497-7974. The Church Secretary E-mail address is officemanager@satx.rr.com.
