Stone Oak is about all this and more!

Stone Oak church is a church home with plenty of opportunities to worship, learn, serve, suggest, lead, and more! We invite all, young, old, inbetween, married, single, families with children, families without children, to find a ministry or service that calls them, become involved, and meet wonderful new friends.

When do we pray, study and worship?

Worship Schedules:
  • The Worship Service starts promptly at 10:30 a.m.  (We offer a Sunday Worship Nursery and Crying Room.)
  • We serve Holy Communion on the 1st Sunday of each month.
  • Ash Wednesday Service with Holy Communion will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22nd. The Holy Season of Lent starts with this service.
  • Additional Lenten and Holy Week Services will be published as those times are firmed up.
Study and Prayer Schedules:
  • Start with Sunday School for all ages at 9:00 a.m. We’ll make the coffee.
  • Between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. we share morning fellowship over coffee. (One note, during this time, we do not offer childcare.)
  • On the FIRST Sunday of each month, our Youth Group sells yummy breakfast tacos at 10:00 a.m. This is a fund raiser for them, and the tacos taste very good with your morning coffee.
  • We offer a wonderful discussion forum Sunday afternoons, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in Brother Kevin’s office. We call it “Talk Back with Brother Kevin”, where the Sunday sermon is discussed, questions can be asked, the lessons are delved into more deeply and meaningfully. We normally make a pot of coffee, and if anyone would like to bring a sweet or snack to share, please do so!
  • Our Women’s Bible Study, led by Robin Colvard, our pastor’s wife,  meets at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, and is usually followed by going somewhere for a bit of lunch and fellowship, to which all are welcome.
  • The Women gather for an annual retreat in Comfort each winter, including fellowship, prayer, as well as exercises to grow both personally and in Christ.
  • The Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group gathers at 8:00 a.m. on the 1st Saturday of each month. Breakfast tacos, coffee, prayer, discussion and fellowship are the order of the day.
  • We E-mail out a weekly S.U.P.V., short for “Straight Up Prayer Vigil” which is written by one of our wonderful Elders, Laura McCroskey, with input from church members, noting specific praise and prayer for all to concentrate on in their daily devotions.
  • A Thursday Evening Prayer Group meets in our Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Colvard.
  • We send out a “We Care Mail” whenever needed; an E-mail with newly received prayer requests from church members for anyone in need of prayer, as well as sharing prayers of praise for blessings received.
  • Young Disciples – our Children’s Sermon time is hosted by a revolving set of both our Pastor, his wife, and highly motivated and interested church members. Following our Children’s Sermon, the children are invited to attend Children’s Church for a brief lesson followed by time in the Church Nursery with fun activities.

What other things do we do to enhance our worship experience?

  • The Chancel Choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Love to make a joyful noise unto the Lord? Please check in with Kevin Baxter, our pianist, or Linda Frazier, our Choir Director. Breaking news: We just acquired a set of tone chimes, and look forward to having them enhance the Worship music!
  • Children are encouraged, when they are ready, to become a part of the Acolyte program. Ask Pastor Kevin to point you in the direction of our Acolytes’ Director, Noelle Hackert.
  • Do you like to greet folks with a smile of welcome, a Sunday morning bulletin, perhaps answer a question? Ask Jack Holt about becoming an Usher or Greeter.

Okay, so far, so good, now, what else do we do to create a family-friendly Christian environment?

  • We host an awesome Mother’s Day Out program on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the regular school year. Please check out their own page here.
  • Our Cumberland Presbyterian Youth Group, led by Kelli Steed-Ashburn, meets Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. during the school year, and 6:00 p.m. during the summers. Kelli mixes up a wonderful blend of worship, service, fun, a mission trip, and more. If you wish to contact Kelli, please drop her a note at youthgroupsocpc@gmail.com
  • Our church offers a “Dinner for Six” opportunity. Once a month, groups of six meet in various settings, a cafe, or restaurant, or a church member’s home to share food and fellowship. One of our church members makes up the groupings on a quarterly basis. If you’re interested, we’ll introduce you to Bruce Troxel, our coordinator, and he’ll get you started.
  • Our annual Vacation Bible School is free to all children, church member and non-church member.
  • We provide and serve dinner to the displaced families at the SAMM Ministry on Blanco Road every other month.
  • The Monthly “Senior Lunch Bunch” gathers on the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Clear Springs Restaurant on the eastbound Loop 1604 access road at 11:30 a.m. ALL ARE WELCOME!
  • We have a quilting ministry, the Jana Quilters, which meet on the 2nd Sat. of each month at 10:00 a.m. to make quilts for child cancer patients, primarily at Christus Santa Rosa hospital in downtown San Antonio. Their desire to offer comfort, mercy and healing has also led them to branch out to the elderly and to others who are in need.
    Ms. Holt,

I received the packet containing information on and photos of Jana’s Quilters yesterday, and appreciate very much your sending it. The Calendar team is meeting this afternoon to review all the entries we’ve received, and yours will surely be one of our better examples. Just so you know, the original purpose of asking for this (as you know) was for the 2012 Planning Calendar, and I feel confident the Quilters will be a part of that effort — but I have also been collecting such stories to run in The Cumberland Presbyterian magazine, and am thinking your story may wind up there as well.  I trust that will meet with your approval.

Thanks again for supporting our Communications Ministry in this way.

Grace and Peace, Mark J. Davis – Communication Team Ministry Leader – Cumberland Presbyterian Church

  • We host an Annual Pumpkin Patch, in conjunction with our Mother’s Day Out Fall Festival, complete Rummage and Bake Sales, late in October of each year.
  • We host an annual “Breakfast with Santa” in December of each year, in which we also participate in the Marines’ “Toys for Tots” program.
  • Our Christmas Outreach Ministry is carefully selected, each year, to reflect helping with the greatest needs, including an “Angel Tree” to benefit the Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home which serves far more than just children in need; it serves families in need.
  • We are active in the San Antonio Habitat for Humanity, assisting with the building of one home each year.

We enjoy taking care of our property and facilities, and offer these volunteer opportunities:

  • We do our own Groundskeeping, and we are proud of our lovely lawn. Teams of two serve all year ’round to mow, edge, trim, and so forth.
  • Our “KP Duty” consists of helping tidy up the kitchen after Sunday coffee.
  • We host 2 – 4 “all church” work Saturdays each year, in which we invite all attendees to help out with special maintenance, repair or decorating needs, as well as the regularly necessary “pick up, put away, or throw away” parties any organization needs from time to time.
  • We have an Altar Guild, and even an unofficial Chancel Guild that help keep our Sanctuary looking as lovely as it should, being God’s home. ANYONE is welcome to help keep things tidy; many hands make light work.
