Leading the Flock

As recently as mid-November 2017, Reverend Kevin Colvard has entered into early retirement due to health issues. We are in the process of forming a pastor search committee, and look with faith and trust into the next chapter of this church’s journey, as we follow the lead of the Holy Spirit.

Our History

The Cumberland Presbyterian Church was founded on February 4, 1810, in Dickson, Tennessee. The cabin in the photograph to the right of this text is the original building in which the first Cumberland Presbyterians gathered to worship. While part of the Presbyterian and Reformed family of churches, we have maintained our distinctiveOriginal Cabin Cumberland Presbyterian Church with caption identity for over 200 years. We are governed by a board of elders elected from the congregation. Stone Oak Cumberland Presbyterian Church (SOCPC) is a part of Trinity Presbytery, composed of some 25 churches in parts of Central and Southeast Texas. Our denominational headquarters are located in Memphis, Tennessee. We have been in the Stone Oak area, just across the street from the Stone Oak Elementary School, since May of 1992 and consider ourselves to be one of the friendliest churches around.

Doctrinal Statement

Our official statement of belief is The Confession of Faith, contained in the book

Confession of Faith for Cumberland Presbyterians: “For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”     (John 3:16)

Our Vision

A love-filled world

Our Purpose

To glorify God by sharing the love and grace of Jesus Christ with as many people as we can.

Our Mission

To connect with God’s children, all God’s children. Our focus is to teach and preach the Word of God, promoting no man-made doctrines, and to witness to all who seek a genuine relationship with Jesus.
